Why do I keep changing my investment strategy?

Frequent switching often comes from behavioral triggers like FOMO, recency bias, loss aversion, and high-noise inputs. The fix is structural: pre-written rules, scheduled reviews, a cooling-off period, and a documented pain budget that clarifies what discomfort is “normal” for your plan.

How long should I stick with a strategy before evaluating it?

Use a pre-written review interval (for example, quarterly or semiannual) and a minimum runway that matches the plan’s expected variability. The key is consistency: evaluate on schedule, not in response to headlines or emotions.

How do I know if a change is justified versus impulsive?

A justified change meets at least one pre-defined criterion in your Strategy Charter and occurs at a scheduled review after a cooling-off period. Impulsive changes happen mid-cycle, without written rationale, and usually follow strong emotions.

Is diversification the same as switching?

No. Diversification is a deliberate, documented allocation choice inside your rules. Switching is abandoning or materially altering your approach without a structured review and rationale.

What if my personal situation or risk capacity changes?

Life changes are valid reasons to revisit your plan. Capture the change in writing, run it through your cooling-off period, and update your Charter at the next scheduled review so the shift is intentional and measured.
